On this webpage you will find “The Bug Name Emoji Game” which is just like “The Drug Name Emoji Game” and meant to be a fun medical emoji puzzle game for people who deal with different types of microbial pathogens. Simply use the emoji symbols to decipher the corresponding organism name!
These puzzles have been developed by Dr. Shaqil Peermohamed @Shaq_MD, Dr. Tanveer Brar @TBRAR, and Dr. Timothy Gauthier @IDstewardship.
Throughout the year there are times to engage people in antibiotic awareness activities. One example is each year in November during US Antibiotic Awareness Week (USAAW) and World Antibiotic Awareness Week (WAAW). Another example is during Pharmacy Week annually in October. The Bug Name Emoji Game is provided here as an activity option for these types of observances.
We love antibiotics and want to preserve them for the future. One way we do that is by teaching people and learning about the pathogens they treat! Beyond just hopefully being eye-catching, this can also be a way to help people learn about microbial pathogens. Many of the organisms on the CDC Antibiotic Resistance Threat Report can be found on this list.

Green are more commonly known (many students should recognize), yellow are less commonly known (many residents/fellows should recognize), and red are the least commonly known (practicing professionals should recognize).
Feel free to just go for the greens or dive right into all 101 emoji puzzles.
Scoring – If you want to get competitive, give 1 point for each correct green, 2 points for each correct yellow, and 3 points for each correct red. See who can get the highest score! This may be fun to play in teams too!!
