Why have the event?

The Northeastern University School of Pharmacy 5K: Run From Resistance was started four years ago in a collaborative effort between three student pharmacy organizations: (1) Northeastern University Society of Health-System Pharmacists (NUSHP), (2) Phi Delta Chi (PDC) Beta Chi chapter, and (3) Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS) Gamma Kappa chapter. It was started to raise awareness about the growing problem of antibiotic resistance.

While antibiotic resistance is a well-known issue among individuals the healthcare field, its prevalence and detrimental impact is lesser known among the general public. Through the efforts of Northeastern University’s  student pharmacists and faculty, we hope to shed light on this preventable problem through community engagement and education.

With each year, this event has grown and evolved to include wider engagement among Northeastern University pharmacy organizations and the community. Last year, 200 attendees participated in the 5K with over $1250 was raised for Alliance for The Prudent Use of Antibiotics, a Boston-based organization dedicated to providing field consultations and lending specialized expertise to guide policy makers, provider organizations, and other stakeholders seeking to improve antimicrobial supply, use, and management decisions.

Where is the event?

This year’s 5K will be held on Sunday, April 8th 2018 at the Back Bay Fens (next to Northeastern University campus) in Boston, Massachusetts. Race check-in begins at 9:30 am. There will be a family-friendly field day held after the race with educational booths to provide information about antibiotic resistance, interactive games and activities, and giveaways hosted by various student pharmacy organizations. It’s going to be a really fun event.

How can I support the event?
